I’m Not Great At This… But I Want To Be

WOW! I cannot believe this is actually happening. I have always said that I would love to go on missions for a year but I honestly figured it would be something that I would never gain the courage to do.

When I signed up for The World Race, I was extremely intimidated by the idea of being asked to keep a blog. For those that may not know me well, I have a degree in illustration and work as a Marketing and Communications Coordinator so I have an understanding of what it means to manage a social media account, but a blog is a whole other story. It’s deep, it’s personal, and it’s public. I am a quality time kind of person who struggles with vulnerability sometimes, I’m sure you can see why this is out of my comfort zone. BUT that doesn’t mean I won’t stay true to my commitment to this blog. It’ll be clumsy and in deep need of editing but I hope and pray you can all bear with me.

Currently Happening/Update

I was accepted into the WR in early November and, (after freaking out in excitement and calling my parents to tell them I need to use their house for storage,) I decided to begin fundraising. I am currently just over half way in total commitments. Which is super exciting! I am so insanely grateful and blessed by my friends and family who wish to support me and send me out to serve in communities on their behalf.

In my life right now, I currently work for Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Canada as a graphic designer/media coordinator and I run my own business as a freelance illustrator. I just finished off a super busy season and, after a 2 week break to be with my wonderful family, I am coming back into a new kind of busy season as this trip steadily approaches. The conclusion of Easter weekend in Ontario marked the start of a 4 week provincial lockdown in order to stop the rising numbers of the COVID-19 variants. I will be praying for those in this boat with me, as it’s been a hard year full of openings and closings here. I pray this lockdown will help drop the numbers across Ontario and can speed up the vaccination process as well.

I’m not going to let this discourage me as I know things will work out and the only difference will be this year or the next. That being said, my web browser is full of tabs researching equipment, facts, clothes, vaccines and more, making my anticipation and anxiety grow. There is still so much to do but I look forward to what God will bring in these next few months before launch and training camp.

Thanks for reading!
